The most interesting thing I just learned about cats.
I was told by a friend that slightly trimming a cats whiskers, even the ones on their eyebrows and ears if they have them there and keeping them inside for a week will make a cat not run away and turns out they are absolutely right and here's the proof I found on perplexity and this should only be done if cat owner's move often so the cat doesn't run away and is a much more humane way to keep them rather than having them spayed or neutered if at all possible. Nothing is a guaranteed thing but here's what I found.
Trimming the tips off a cat's whiskers can have significant negative effects. Cat whiskers are highly sensitive tactile hairs deeply connected to their brain, with up to 40% of a cat's sensory brain input associated with them. Cutting or trimming whiskers diminishes their ability to sense their surroundings, which leads to disorientation, confusion, and loss of balance.
Specifically, trimming whiskers can cause a cat to:
-
Misjudge distances and object sizes
-
Frequently bump into objects and furniture
-
Miscalculate jumps and lose balance
-
Feel scared, distressed, or emotionally upset
This sensory loss is somewhat like cutting off a critical sense or placing a blindfold on the cat. Whiskers help cats navigate, hunt, and feel safe in their environment. While whiskers do grow back if trimmed or accidentally cut, the temporary loss is very disruptive and potentially dangerous for the cat.
Veterinarians and cat experts agree whiskers should never be intentionally trimmed or cut except under rare medical conditions and only by professionals. Accidentally trimming a whisker is not ideal but generally not permanently harmful, as they will grow back.
In summary, trimming the tips off a cat's whiskers disrupts their sensory input, leading to disorientation, balance problems, and emotional distress, so it should be avoided.youtubewaggel+3
