The best way to lift people out of poverty

In 2018, a nonprofit gave every adult in the Ahenyo village $500. Most families had lived in extreme poverty for generations, and this sum was roughly equivalent to their annual salaries. The money came with no strings attached to how it could be spent. Would this lift villagers out of poverty or be another failed philanthropic endeavor? Explore aid programs and how they address people's needs.

If you watch this Ted talk, I believe this can apply to many, many situations where the people making decisions aren't the ones who are affected by the laws they get passed or the multitude of other decisions they are in charge of making.   For instance, if the government wanted to truly improve the jail system and make sure it was working they would ask the people they put in jail for constructive feedback in order to improve things and reduce recidivism rates overall but instead we usually just get the same old, same old and many being resistant to any change.  This is why so many of the other countries that are the happiest have more community engagement, less crime, and less restrictive prison systems as well but since its all about money or revenue instead of enabling prisoner's to be able and ready to re-enter society that is where more prison's are not the answer.  If the people who were in control of parole had been in the system themselves, they might be a lot more empathetic to the hardships some face but instead they have brand new officers doing these jobs that have very little empathy if any at all.  So in summary if we want people in office that understand we need to vote in people that have been thru and understand the people the best so they make decisions that help everyone and not just the wealthy elite or the corporations.
