Data centers, AI, and my opinion about both
 

Our investments into data centers and AI could bring a lot of good things and I feel that what is much worse is the current administrations deregulation of so many things is much worse and could be allowing the construction of these data centers for AI without consideration for the residents or endangered species before building.  I believe they should regulate or undo the protections that they have undone so these buildings can be built where they do no harm to the environment because we do need them to keep up on the AI and Quantum arms race that all the superpowers are competing in.  We would be making a big mistake by not at the very least trying to keep up with the other’s technology for national security and it would be a mistake/risk to not keep up with the growing possible cyber security threat as well we should be teaching cyber-security and even how to use AI in our growing public education’s curriculum.  Colleges here in Arkansas just recently began to offer a class teaching AI topics which is a step in the right direction but here in Arkansas we generally are way behind or the last to adopt new technologies and it’s very likely due to our local government being conservative republican and their policies rather than anything else. I believe China is teaching their kindergartener’s about AI and since this is something that will not and cannot go away, we should do something similar and start having the conversations that most don’t want to have.  The printing press, phone and even the internet people felt the same fears of and AI is no different.  AI should be done carefully and there is no question about that but to try and ignore it isn’t feasible instead we should try to get the general public to join in regulating and safeguarding it instead of trying to block it altogether.

 

The American capitalist economy is far from perfect and the current administration has it’s own pitfalls since it has been a hotbed for corruption and letting monopolies as well as corporations and businesses thrive that should have failed.  If we continue on the path we are on then our democracy in the US is going to fail, too much is unfair or corrupt especially since one party has total control of the government and this Is my main argument for a social democracy.  Social democracy would create more political parties to chose from which would also foster a healthy competition which we don’t have in the retail marketplace due to the monopolies of walmart and amazon.  Other countries have successfully sued google for anti-trust practices so why hasn’t the US done the same?  I feel like as long as the wall street markets only show gains when a company or corporation finds some way to cut costs by either moving or cutting corners then our system stays flawed and will continue to a haven for corruption.  What we need is a system that prides fairness and the public wellbeing instead and that instead of just slapping these companies or corporations on the wrist with fines that don’t even impede them from continuing to or simply finding another way to circumvent the rules and regulations still in place to protect the public.  Letting these giant corporations inherently self-regulate should never be a option or choice because they will never do the right thing when it comes to their bottom line and history has proven that time and time again yet we simply don’t learn or completely forget the past.
